Rollins Reservoir – 2/18/2010
Fished from 1st light to about 11:30 am for Browns. We had 1 very hard pull down and the fish was on for maybe 10 seconds then gone, but from the take down and the few seconds the rod was in Jayen’s (deckhand) hands it was a very large fish.
We fished the area for about 2 hours then switched over to rainbow tackle and got 6 in no time at all which was a surprize since the rainbow fishing has been fairly tough as of late. I figure they must have planted the lake in the last few days as all of the trout were planter size with the rounded caudal (tail) fin.
We fished with Shasta Tackle’s Matrix Kazi Minnows for the Browns in rainbow trout pattern and used Fish with Gary spinners and wee tads behind Shasta Tackle and Vances dodgers. We also used a Seps dodger with an Uncle Larrys Cop Car spinner that we were using at Almanor and it got the last fish of the day.
Looks like we have some rain heading our way so I might put off my return trip to Almanor this weekend and the first part of next week and head over to Collins to see how the trout fishing is.
I know the bass bite is awesome right now on Collins.

Lake Almanor – 2/15/2010
Fishing for Bows and Browns is wide open. We caught 24 trout in a little over 6 hours with a 4lb 11oz being the largest. Artic fox trolling fly behind the large Shasta tackle dodger got the big one. Cop car uncle larrys did very well as did fishing with a gary pink spinner.
The 10 fish the clients kept totaled just under 26lbs.
The fish are spawning and the bite should only get better over the next few weeks if thats possible.
